Sullivan Super Service Hosts Kickoff Event for 17th Annual Food Drive in Partnership with Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School.
Kickoff Event will be held at 11:05 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018.
PITTSBURGH, PA - Sullivan Super Service is pleased to announce its 17th Annual Food Drive benefiting the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The food drive, held from September 1 through the end of the year, will benefit from donations collected during services call and from a partnership drive with the students of Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School.
The annual food drive was started in 2001 by Sullivan Super Service owner John L. Sullivan. The Sullivan family has always valued the worth of a helping neighbor's hand and started our food drive because we wanted to show our neighbors that we're always there with a hand to help. Every year our technicians collect canned goods and other nonperishable food items, as well as cash donations, that we proudly deliver to the food bank.
This year, Sullivan Super Service wanted to reach the community through its youth and created a partnership with Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School. The students will use their skills in the arts to produce creative campaigns to collect food items. Sullivan Super Service will host a kickoff event at the school at 11:05 a.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018.
The event will feature a pep rally highlighting the skills students learn at the arts academy and will include performances by the school’s dancers, pep squad, music program and a “Kick the Can” hunger hero contest.
Each year, the company kicks off the food drive during September in honor of Hunger Action Month. The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is asking people to consider how they can help their neighbors lead a healthy life and ultimately promote a promising future for the entire community.
To encourage donations, Sullivan Super Service will thank its customers who make a donation with a coupon for $25 off their next service call. This year, the company hopes to beat last year’s collection of food and monetary donations and make 10,000 meals possible for Pittsburgh families. If the goal is reached, Sullivan Super Service will also make a $500 donation to the school in honor of their hard work.
The food bank especially requests items needed for holiday dinners served in the upcoming months. These items include instant mashed potatoes, boxed stuffing mix, canned corn, beans and yams, canned cranberry, cornbread mix, instant or canned gravy, pie crust, mix and filling, canned fruit, cake, brownie and dessert mixes, 100% juice and themed paper products. Interested donors who are not in need of service may drop off donations at the business office located at 1350 5th Avenue, East McKeesport, PA 15135 or request a pick up by calling 412-271-0900.
